January 20th: Announcement of the Final List of Teams Qualified to Participate in the "Smart Healthcare" Hackathon

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research,Prof.Dr. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University, andProfessor Dr. Gehan Abdel Hady, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Benha University has announced the "Smart Healthcare Hackathon" under the slogan "AI Applications: Egypt's Digital Future." The event is scheduled to be held from February 9th to 11th, 2026.
Prof.Dr. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University, explained that the Hackathon aims to support digital transformation and achieve Egypt's Vision 2030 by promoting innovation and encouraging creative youth from Egyptian universities and institutes to present innovative solutions in fields such as: (AI in Diagnosis, Remote Health Monitoring, Mental Health and Well-being, Facilitating Access to Healthcare, Telemedicine Solutions, IoT for Elderly Care, Medical Data Analysis and Visualization).
El-Gizawy added that 5 teams from each track, totaling 35 teams, will advance to the final evaluation stage. These teams will be announced on Tuesday, January 20th, 2026. Winners of the hackathon will receive financial prizes totaling 175,000 Egyptian pounds, provided by Benha University across 7 tracks. The first-place winner in each track will receive a prize of 12,000 EGP, the second-place winner 8,000 EGP, and the third-place winner 5,000 EGP.
Prof.Dr. Gehan Abdel Hady indicated that introductory sessions and other information will be announced through the University's official Facebook page, the Hackathon's website, and the Benha University website.
Dr. Shady El-Mashed, Executive Director of Information and General Coordinator of the Hackathon, announced that 274 teams from 39 Egyptian universities (governmental, private, national, technological) applied to compete in the Hackathon's seven different tracks. The preliminary evaluation stage by judging committees, which include specialized faculty members as well as industry experts, has already begun.
The final lists of teams qualified for the final stage will be announced on January 20th, 2026... Stay tuned.

President of Benha University: Formation of a Central Committee to Measure Environmental Impact and Carbon Neutrality

Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University, announced the formation of a central committee to measure the environmental impact and carbon neutrality at the university, chaired by Prof. Taha Ashour, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development. This committee aims to ensure a unified zero carbon footprint across all theoretical and practical colleges, hospitals, and university cities that accommodate thousands of students, as well as all operational and service activities within the university.
The President emphasized that the green transition is not an intellectual luxury but a pressing national responsibility and a fundamental duty for the university as a knowledge incubator and community leader. He pointed out that sustainability is at the core of the identity and mission of higher education in the 21st century.
Prof. El-Gizawy added that Benha University's strategy aligns perfectly with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and directly contributes to Goal 13 (Climate Action) and Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), aiming to graduate generations that are aware and actively participate in creating a more stable, green, and sustainable future for Egypt.
Prof. Taha Ashour stated that Benha University's direction towards carbon neutrality is more than just an isolated environmental initiative; it is a re-establishment of the university's relationship with its environment and community. He noted that through this organized scientific approach; Benha University not only aims to reduce its emissions but also provides a measurable and applicable research model.
The Vice President mentioned that the central committee includes Prof. Samir Ahmed Ali, Professor and Consultant of Bio-System Engineering, as the Executive Director, along with Prof. Rami Hamouda, Director of the Center for Sustainable Development and Environment, an expert in environmental analysis and auditing, and Ms. Rania Moataz, Assistant Secretary-General for Community Service and Environmental Development. The team also includes Prof. Mohamed Basyouni, Director of the Sustainable Development Unit at the university.
Prof. Ashour clarified that the committee has developed a precise and intensive work plan, outlined in a timeline of six months. The process begins with preparing data files and addressing the colleges to form subcommittees, followed by holding intensive training workshops on the concept of carbon footprint in February, and concluding with the issuance of the final carbon footprint report for the entire university in June 2026.

Benha University Participates in the "Luxor and Aswan" Youth Train Journey

A student delegation from Benha University participated in the activities of the Youth Train (Luxor and Aswan journey), as part of programs aimed at providing young people with the opportunity to learn about Egypt's civilizational and touristic assets, and to develop a spirit of belonging and pride in the national identity.
This participation was held under the patronage of Prof.Dr. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University, and Prof.Dr. Jehan Abdel Hady, Vice President of the University for Postgraduate Studies and Research.Prof.Dr. Nasser El-Gizawy affirmed Benha University's keenness to actively participate in various events to enhance awareness among distinguished, talented, and gifted students in all fields."El-Gizawy" added that the participation of a student delegation from the university in the Youth Train is a distinguished opportunity to explore the historical and civilizational landmarks in the governorates of Luxor and Aswan, which contributes to raising the students' touristic and cultural awareness.
