Prof. Dr. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University, announced significant progress in the rankings of the university’s scientific journals according to the Supreme Council of Universities (SCU) evaluation for July 2026. A total of 20 scientific journals published by the university and its faculties were evaluated, including the addition of a new journal to the assessment.

Dr. El-Gizawy explained that this achievement reflects the university’s continuous pursuit of academic and research excellence. He noted that the Benha Journal of Engineering Sciences and Technology was included in the SCU ranking for the first time and received a score of 6.5. The Journal of Basic and Environmental Sciences also continued its upward progress and achieved the same score.

The University President further highlighted the advancement of both the Benha Journal of Humanities and the Journal of Accounting Studies and Research, which attained the maximum score of 7. They joined the following journals that also achieved the highest rating:

  • Faculty of Nursing Journal
  • Faculty of Arts Journal
  • Faculty of Education Journal
  • Journal of Legal and Economic Thought
  • Veterinary Sciences Journal
  • Journal of Physical Education and Sports Sciences
  • Journal of Educational and Qualitative Studies and Research
  • Journal of Business Studies and Research
  • Research and Studies Journal, Faculty of Arts
  • Engineering Research Journal
  • Benha International Journal of Physical Therapy

As a result, the total number of university journals receiving the highest score increased to 13 journals.

Dr. Jihan Abdel Hady, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, added that the Benha Medical Journal has maintained its inclusion in the international Scopus database. Three additional journals also achieved high scores close to the maximum:

  • Annals of Agricultural Sciences, Moshtohor: 6.5
  • Benha University Journal of Applied Sciences: 6
  • Journal of Forensic Medicine and Clinical Toxicology: 6
  • The Journal of Physical Education and Sports Sciences Research also maintained its position within the ranking system.

Dr. El-Gizawy expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the journals' editorial boards and management teams for their dedicated efforts in enhancing journal quality and achieving this accomplishment.

It is worth noting that the evaluation of scientific journals is based on several criteria, including publication regularity, availability through the Egyptian Knowledge Bank (EKB) platform, and the diversity of editorial boards through the inclusion of scientific experts from outside the institution.

Dr. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University, announced that the university’s research performance and international publication indicators for 2025 demonstrated significant progress in both scientific productivity and the quality of published research, reflecting the university’s growing position among academic and research institutions at the regional and international levels.

Dr. Jihan Abdel Hady, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, revealed that the number of internationally published papers in 2025 reached 2,009 publications, bringing the university’s total scientific output during the period 2021–2025 to 9,440 international publications, representing an increase of 682 papers compared with the beginning of the period.

In the area of international collaboration, the university achieved an international co-authorship rate of 64.7% of its total published research. The number of publications produced in collaboration with international institutions and researchers reached 6,106 papers, highlighting the expansion of Benha University’s global research partnership network.

Research impact indicators also showed strong performance, with the university achieving an average of 17.8 citations per published paper. In addition, the Field-Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI) reached 1.69 in 2025, indicating that Benha University's publications performed 69% above the global average impact.

Regarding the quality of scientific publishing, the data showed that 55.8% of the university’s publications appeared in Q1 journals, ranked among the top 25% of scholarly journals worldwide. A further 23.7% were published in Q2 journals, bringing the proportion of publications in the top 50% of global journals to 79.5%. Moreover, 94.3% of the university’s research output was published in journals ranked within the top 75% worldwide.

The annual analysis of the Field-Weighted Citation Impact also revealed notable improvement in 2025, with the FWCI rising to 1.69, compared with 1.35 in 2024, marking the highest level achieved during the past five years.

These achievements reaffirm Benha University’s commitment to strengthening its research capabilities and advancing scientific excellence. They also support the university’s vision of enhancing the quality of its research output, expanding international collaboration, and contributing effectively to global knowledge production.
